Pittsburgh, PA. OPTIMUM is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Release 9 of its benchmark engine design products, Virtual Engines, Virtual 4-StrokeTM, Virtual 2-StrokeTM, Automated Design and Network Supercomputer. Glen Chatfield, President of OPTIMUM states, ‘Release 9 is the culmination of an enormous effort to upgrade all our products to take advantage of new Microsoft Windows VISTA platforms and new product releases from our co-simulation partners. We are very excited about this release because we know that it will enable our products to continue to deliver value to our customers for a long time into the future’. Release 9 offers the following new features: Windows VISTA Support: Virtual Engines (VE), Automated Design (AD) and Network Supercomputer (NS) now support 32-bit Windows VISTA under administrative permissions with User Access Control ‘Off’. All of the new products use Windows Installer 3.1 and are VeriSign® authenticated applications as is required by VISTA. 2008 service packs will provide support for 64-bit Windows VISTA and non-administrative mode with User Access Control ‘On’. Platform Updates and FLEXlm® is Eliminated: All Products now support Office 2007 and SQL Server 2005 Express. Fluent 6.3.26 coupling libraries for Win32 are included with the new releases and Matlab support has been upgraded to release 7.5. To simplify installation and support, OPTIMUM has eliminated the complexity of FLEXlm from its product line. Customers who currently use FLEXlm as a method of controlling OPTIMUM licenses will not be impacted by this removal, and new customers will not be required to introduce FLEXlm management in order to use any of the products. XML Model Import/Export and Auto-Save Features: In addition to the CSV Import/Export function, Virtual Engines now supports XML. Customers performing design processes requiring communication with other applications will now have the most modern and common application interface available. Release 9 also includes a new Auto-Save feature to reduce the inconvenience and loss of productivity associated with system failures. Expanded Sensor Support: Virtual Engines sensor support has been greatly expanded and includes new Pressure Drop and Pulsation measurement sensors. These new sensors are useful to analyze and optimize muffler designs. All new and previous sensors are now available to be used as design optimization Goals by Automated Design. Cylinder Purity (Scavenging Efficiency) has also been added to the list of AD optimization goals. For example, Scavenging Efficiency can be used to optimize an engine’s mixture quality at idle to improve its smoothness and reduce its exhaust emissions. Network Supercomputer Expanded by a Factor of 10: Network Supercomputer (NS) Customers will be able to expand their computing clusters up to 50 concurrent simulators under the base product license. NS clients can now be installed on many more workstations, enabling massively parallel simulation and Automated Design processing to accelerate and improve the outcome of customer design projects. Further, two or more simulation clients can be installed on a single workstation to take advantage of all of the processors and “cores” that are present. OPTIMUM Power Technology provides best-of-breed engineering products including 1-D engine simulation and modeling, design optimization, combustion data acquisition and analysis, Design of Experiments methodologies, and engine management systems.
